  • conducted an online poll of its readers to find out how many birds were visiting feeders this year compared to past years. Readers report:
    • 47 percent reported more feeder activity
    • 34 percent said there was less activity
    • 17 percent said it was about the same

    Here in central Maine the numbers have been about the same, but the species mix has been very different. We have had few to none of: Evening Grossbeaks, Pine Siskens, Redpolls, and Goldfinches, but far more than normal Purple Finches. Do you have any observations on the subject?
